SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Ten men and two women, representing more than eight decades of athletic achievement, were inducted into the inaugural class of the R.J. Reynolds High School Sports Hall of Fame on May 4, 2008. Inductees included Claude "Pop" Joyner, Mary Garber, John Tandy, Herman W. Bryson, Sam L. Sanders, Shirley S. "Red" Wilson, Robert Deaton, Stan Crews, Conrad Graham, Tommy Greg, Kim Lash Gillespie and Derrele Mitchell.

To honor this first class and the classes of the future, a permanet plaque has been hung in the foyer of the main building. Hall of Fame Chairmen Neal and Kathy Robinson, both members of the Class of '71, worked tirelessly to coordinate this legacy to the RJR world of athletics.

The nominating form must be completed and returned to the school office by March 1, 2009, or mailed to RJR Booster Club, 301 N. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

Inductees for the Class of 2009 will be announced at the induction ceremony taking place at the R.J. Reynolds Auditorium in May. The public is invited to join this exciting celebration of 86 years of R.J. Reynolds sports.

There are also opportunities to show your support for this event and the Booster Club through individual, corporate and R.J. Reynolds class donations. A newspaper ad announcing the first inductees will run in April and include the name of support from any of these categories of donations of $500 and more. All donations at any level are welcome and donors will be recognized in the ceremony program.
