    THE ARTS

    Arts Magnet Information

  • The Arts Magnet Office is looking for photos of RJR students or staff engaged in arts-related activities for our new bulletin board. Please send any pictures -- along with a brief description -- to Karen Morris or deliver them to the arts magnet office in the Media Center.
  • An interest meeting will be scheduled in late April for an Arts Magnet Club. Terry Hicks and Karen Morris will be the club's sponsors. The club will volunteer to help community arts groups, support the magnet program and create relationships with artists and organizers in the community. Watch for details about this new club.
  • Community arts organizations are contacting RJR about upcoming events, with some providing tickets at reduced rates for students. See the bulletin board at the 2nd floor entrance for a completet calendar. Contact Karen Morris for more information.
  • THE ARTS EXPRESS!:
The Arts Express is a collaborative program between the Winston-Salem Arts Community, the RJR PTSA and the Reynolds Arts Magnet Office. This program offers free transportation and reduced-price tickets to one arts event each month. It will help create a culture of the arts here at Reynolds, encourage our students to take advantage of the wonderful art opportunities in our own state, and allow more students and families to experience these activities with their school friends. In addition to the Arts Express, the Art Magnet Office will advertise local art opportunities on three bulletin boards in school. Should you desire to have the local art opportunities emailed to your home, subscribe through communityartscafe.com. Most Arts Express events will cost less than $10. Tickets will be sold through the Art Magnet Office. Pay attention to announcements and the PTSA Communication emails to learn complete details as each event approaches. Some will have limited seats available, so purchase your tickets as soon as you can. We look forward to having you board the Arts Express!

The next Arts Express program will be a private tour of the Reynolda House exhibit entitled "Seeing the City: John Sloan's NY" on Monday, October 27 right after school. Museum educators will lead our students in discussions about this important exhibit of Sloan's paintings that celebrate the lives of ordinary Americans in early twentieth-century New York. Tickets will cost $5 and include bus service from the Arts building and the tour. If you have questions about this or other Arts Express programs, contact Karen Morris.

    CHORUS:
  • Congratulations to Staci Johnston, Soprano II. Staci was one of only 150 selected from about 1,300 students who auditioned for the state's most prestigious high-school choir, the N.C. Honors Chorus. Staci also took first place in the Triad Golden Harmony Talent Search. Comfort Johnson took third place in the talent search.
  • The Choral Music students will present their first concert of the year on Tuesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Auditorium. Admission is $5. Children 12 and under are free. Proceeds help support the chorus program. The opening concert is titled, "A La Carte" and will include a variety of choral works and styles. (The RJR Chorus Concert, originally scheduled for November 13, has been switched with WS/FCS All-County HS Chorus to accommodate a solution for a scheduling conflict at other schools.)
